In Jamaica, "YAAD" means "Home"
I decided to name my company “Thingz From Yaad“ because I prepare food from home in the most authentic way possible.
Nestled in the heart of South Burlington, VT, Thingz From Yaad Kitchen exudes warmth and welcomes guests with open arms. With its cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and a menu bursting with mouthwatering dishes, it's the perfect place to unwind and savor a delightful meal. Our diverse menu caters to every palate, whether you're looking for a leisurely dinner with loved ones, a quick lunch catch-up with friends, or a solo meal at the bar. Thingz From Yaad Kitchen offers a relaxed setting where laughter flows as freely as the conversation. Come as you are, and leave with a satisfied heart, a full stomach, and a smile.

Growing up, starting at 8 or 9, cooking with your mom was almost mandatory.
Soon after being around my mom in the kitchen, it was my turn to make dinner on my own. The very first meal I prepared was Curry Chicken and White Rice. Honestly, it was the worst meal I have ever prepared. Everything was uncooked. However, my mom still ate it and fixed what she could. She then took the time to go through the steps again, and I eventually got it right. To this day, my favorite Jamaican meal is very spicy Curry Chicken and Rice; I can prepare it with my eyes closed.
Why did I choose to cook? Living in Vermont made me realize very fast that I needed to cook! I could not go to the corner restaurant to purchase a freshly cooked “Box Lunch” to satisfy my craving. I had to get in the kitchen and cook.
Cooking is also a way to care for my community; back home in Jamaica, when we cook, we always cook extra to share because someone will come by for some food. My mom’s kitchen was always open to all, which I have held close to me and continue to do daily. I cook as a means of relaxing my mind.
For me, cooking is a way of life, and sharing a little piece of my home with and nurturing my community makes it so much more fulfilling.
